About Gretchen Koster-Alcaraz, LLPC

Welcome!

I embrace the idea that we do not have to be defined by our past, but much of our past may be constraining us from who we can and want to be. Our past, present, and future relationships, habits, stresses and anxieties, life transitions and changes, self-identity, grief, and even career all play a part in what we see as a meaningful life.

I approach counseling from a more holistic and relational lens, and may utilize techniques from narrative, somatic, attachment, cognitive-behavioral, emotion-focused, and family systems therapy. With life ever-changing, these techniques and the goals we create will give us a path for where you want to head, and may be adaptable throughout treatment.

I view counseling as a non-judgmental space for you to process, become aware, and rewrite the story that you want to live. Allowing yourself the space, time, and freedom to redefine what that means for you can help you live a life you are meant, deserve, and worth living.

I would be honored to be invited into that space with you!

Gretchen's Background

I graduated from Hope College with a bachelor’s in K-12 Special Education and K-5 General Education. After teaching for a little bit, I then pursued a master’s in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling from Cornerstone University. I have worked with a variety of groups of people (college-aged to retired adults), with a variety of focus areas (i.e., life stressors, career transitions, anxiety and depression, grief, traumatic experiences, and empty nesting). With this in mind, I continue to work with a wide variety of people, areas, and factors that impact your quality and meaning in life.

I currently live in West Michigan, but was born and raised in a small farming community. I enjoy a plethora of outdoor activities in the summer (i.e., camping, kayaking, hammocking), and stick to more indoor activities in the colder seasons (i.e., baking and cooking, puzzles, and music).
