“Hello! I’m Cortney Scudder. I am a licensed professional counselor, and I am particularly passionate about working with children. I enjoy finding creative ways to help children express themselves and communicate their emotions, needs, and concerns as well as to learn skills that will help them to thrive at home, at school, and out in the community. I like to view things holistically, which means taking into consideration one’s own mental health, emotional health, spiritual health, and physical health. It often also requires attention to environmental factors and so working with parents and family units is an important piece of the work that I do too.
My theoretical approach is eclectic and includes reality, cognitive-behavioral, person-centered, psychodynamic, narrative, and family systems. I am not a certified play therapist, but play therapy is my primary approach to working with young children and I use a combination of directive and non-directive forms depending on age and cognition. I like to keep therapy creative with clients of all ages and often incorporate elements of art therapy as well.
I believe that everyone could benefit from an unbiased, caring, and non-judgmental ear listening to them in a space that is safe to discuss absolutely anything. It is my pleasure to walk alongside children and individuals affected by autism, ADHD, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, depression, trauma, self-harm, foster care or adoption, abuse, low self-esteem, and other life-controlling issues.
If you would like to find out if I would be a good fit for you on your journey, feel free to contact me by phone, e-mail, or by completing the form at the bottom of this page.
I look forward to hearing from you!”
