Hello! My name is Misty Chung and I am a Clinical Social Worker and Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor. If you are seeking to find peace and contentment amidst difficult circumstances or more “tools” to navigate challenges I would love to walk alongside you. If you are seeking this for your child or in your relationship I would also love to walk alongside you and them in this.
I believe that each of us is a body, mind, and spirit and that understanding these parts and keeping them in balance is essential for healing and growth. I believe that each person is an expert in their own life and that when we are present together in this therapeutic relationship very cool things can happen!
My treatment focuses on finding solutions that work with the unique details of your life and your personal goals and desires. This is Solution-Focused, Client-Focused, Motivational Interviewing treatment. Together we will work to identify, develop, and practice “tools” that allow you to approach your unique challenges with confidence and clarity. This is done by blending evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) techniques, trauma-informed care, and play therapy techniques. It is my desire in our sessions that each person feels free to be fully who they are and that we can be an effective working team together.
I received my Bachelor’s of Arts in Social Work from Calvin College (Go, Knights!) and my Master of Social Work from Grand Valley State University (Go, Lakers!). After practicing in many medical and clinical settings including home visits, office visits and hospitals I advanced my education by becoming a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC). I have been practicing outpatient counseling since 2008. Interesting to know is that I have practiced counseling on two different continents and I can provide treatment in both English and Spanish and hold a conversation in Tajik (one of the languages spoken in Central Asia)!
I love spending quality time with the people I love and meeting new people especially if this involves eating food, drinking coffee, or taking a walk outside! One of my favorite movies of all time is the Lord of the Rings trilogy and I am particularly fond of the second movie, The Two Towers. Inspired by Tolkein, this allegorical movie inspires me to remember that even when all looks lost and bleak…the sun will still rise on a new day.
