About Sharon Newhouse, LPC
Are you tired? Weary? Burned out by the demands and fears of the world? Life can be so hard! Let’s make it a little softer by unpacking your burdens together.
Hi, I’m Sharon! I’ve been a Licensed Professional Counselor for over a decade. From a very young age, I knew I wanted to have a career with kids, so I naturally assumed I’d become a teacher. After volunteering in a classroom in which 90% of the kids lived below the poverty line, my heart broke hearing the struggles of their young lives, and God quickly changed my vision from focusing on curriculum to focusing on supporting children’s emotional, spiritual, and social wellbeing through counseling. I’m passionate about meeting kids where they’re at and using play, art, and their interests to help them thrive both in the therapy office and in the world.
As I’ve grown in my career, I’ve also developed a passion for helping adults work through their struggles with anxiety, depression, stress, grief, relationships, and life transitions. Supporting parents also has a special place in my heart. As a parent of both biological and adopted kids, I know firsthand how rewarding yet unbelievably challenging parenting can be! I desire to first ensure you have the support you need to be a healthy person and then support you on your parenting journey.
If you, or your child, are struggling with any of the things listed above, I’d love to come alongside you and help you move from simply surviving to thriving in who God created you to be. In my office, you’ll be meet with a warm smile and compassionate, non-judgmental space. Together we’ll talk through where you’ve been, where you’re struggling now, and where you hope to go in the future. We’ll build on your strengths to help you accomplish what may feel impossible now. You’re doing better than you think! Reach out via email or the link below so we can journey toward your goals together.
Sharon's Story
I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Family Studies from Cornerstone University and my Master’s degree in Counseling from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary. During my studies, I worked with children internationally in school and orphanage settings. Post graduation, I became a fully Licensed Professional Counselor and worked with clients of a variety of ages and with a variety of needs at a counseling ministry in Holland before landing at Hope & Wholeness.
I live in Zeeland with my husband, kids, and dogs. As a family we love exploring parks and trails outside, baking treats, having snuggle parties, and petting all of the dogs. Outside of my family, I love going on long runs, attempting to grow flowers and veggies in my garden, laughing at corny jokes, enjoying coffee with friends, and listening to audiobooks that challenge my thinking.
