About Susan Rood, LMSW

Hello,

I am excited to be providing therapy in Allegan. I had been providing care in this community for years before leaving for a brief time. Having this opportunity to be back where I belong is wonderful. If you are a returning client or someone new my door is open.

Everyone struggles with life’s hardships at times. I can appreciate how hard it can be to start the therapy process. I would like to develop a place of safety, connectedness, and encouragement for you to come during those times. It is my wish that we work together in developing goals that are important to you. We will work as a team to create a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust and compassion to help walk you through your life journey.

Throughout my career, I have provided a wide range of therapy and support to children and adults. My recent focus has been on the trauma impact related to abuse, neglect, foster care placements, and adoption. However, I have worked with adults and children who have experienced a wide variety of life traumas. I have worked extensively with women during their pregnancies and through the transition into motherhood. In an outpatient setting, I have provided care for people who have struggled with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, executive functioning difficulties, grief and loss, adjustment disorders, and trauma. I am passionate about working with adults and children 13 years and older.

Susan's Story:

I received my bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a criminal justice concentration and Psychology, with a minor in Family life and Human Sexuality from Central Michigan University. I went on to gain a Master of Social Work degree from Ohio State University. I have provided in-home or outpatient services in the field since 1999. This has allowed me to work in different environments such as juvenile detention centers, in homes, and providing outpatient therapy. I enjoy working as an outpatient therapist, as it gives a place to focus on oneself without distraction.

I live with my husband, two wonderful children, and two dogs, Jasper and Cooper. We enjoyed fishing, hiking, and exploring the beautiful State of Michigan. I love to travel out of state to spend time with family and friends. Much of my downtime is spent watching my kids do the things they love, like football, cheerleading, wrestling, and soccer.
