About Karen Van Slkye, MA, LLP, CAADC, CBIS

Hello, I’m Karen Van Slyke. I am a limited licensed psychologist who finds great purpose in listening to others and helping people overcome formidable obstacles.
I believe relationships are key and establishing trust in a therapeutic relationship is essential. When you enter into a therapeutic relationship with me you will find a space to share your concerns and an opportunity to build new skills for managing the stressors and challenges you encounter as you seek to make the changes to move you closer to your goals.

An individual may enter into a therapeutic relationship for a variety of reasons. For some it might be a general sense of dissatisfaction with life as experienced in the present. Some may feel as though they are only going through the motions of life. Others might be looking for an objective perspective to refine skills and address areas of growth. My approach is strengths based and skills based to work toward your goals.

If you would like to learn more about how I might be of assistance, please contact me by phone, e-mail, or by completing the form at the bottom of this page. You can also learn more about me by reading my story below.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Karen's Story:

I grew up in Illinois and attended the University of Iowa. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Arts, with a Psychology major. After graduating from college, I moved to Michigan and began to raise a family. As the youngest of my three children entered elementary school, I resumed my academic training.

I earned a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Western Michigan University. I have worked in a clinical and supervisory capacity for several programs in Kent County. Several years ago I transitioned to a counseling role in a specialty program, assisting individuals and their families adjust to challenges following brain injury and spinal cord injury.

I currently live in Hudsonville with my husband. I enjoy spending time with my adult children and traveling to visit with other family members who live at a distance. I also enjoy running and outdoor activities.
